- The name “Sital Pati” means “cool mat”, as it remains cool even during hot summers.
- It is a traditional handicraft in Cachar, Barak Valley, Karimganj, Hailakandi, and Goalpara districts of Assam.
- The mat is an integral part of Assamese households, used for seating, sleeping, and religious ceremonies.

2️⃣ Material & Weaving Process
- Plant Used: Murta plant (Schumannianthus dichotomus), found in marshy areas.
- Harvesting: Mature Murta stems are cut, split into thin strips, and soaked in water to make them flexible.
- Weaving:
- Handwoven by artisans, mainly women.
- The strips are woven tightly without any gaps, creating a smooth, durable, and elegant mat.
